Frequently Asked Questions
How does the AI photo analysis work?
PhotoBase Cleaner uses AI technology to automatically identify duplicates, near-identical shots, low-quality photos, and more. The AI analyzes every photo to highlight your best shots and suggest ones to delete, saving you from manually reviewing thousands of photos. All AI analysis runs locally on your device.
What types of duplicates can PhotoBase Cleaner find?
PhotoBase Cleaner can identify exact duplicates, near-identical shots with slight variations, and similar videos. It also compares photos by quality, size, date, and file type to help you make informed decisions about what to keep.
Is PhotoBase Cleaner safe to use?
Yes! PhotoBase Cleaner processes all photos locally on your device. No photos are uploaded to our servers, and you have full control over which photos to delete.
Is my privacy protected when using PhotoBase Cleaner?
Your privacy is our top priority. All photos stay on your device - there are no cloud uploads, no data sharing. PhotoBase Cleaner processes everything locally, ensuring your memories remain completely private.
How much storage space can I expect to save?
Most users reclaim several gigabytes of storage space after cleaning their photo libraries. The exact amount depends on how many duplicates and low-quality photos you have. PhotoBase Cleaner shows you exactly how much space you'll save before you delete anything.
How long does the AI processing take to analyze my photos?
The AI processing time depends on the size of your photo library. For most users, the initial scan takes just a few minutes to analyze thousands of photos. The AI works efficiently in the background, so you can continue using your device while it processes. Subsequent scans are much faster since the app remembers previously analyzed photos. For larger libraries, we recommend plugging in your phone to a power source to ensure it doesn't drain your device's battery.
Can I preview photos before deleting them?
Absolutely! PhotoBase Cleaner includes a preview system with smooth pan and zoom functionality. You can review every photo before making any deletion decisions, ensuring you never accidentally delete important memories.
What does "saving" photos mean and how does it help me?
When you "save" a photo in PhotoBase Cleaner, you're marking it as a photo you want to keep. This saves you from having to re-review the same photos every time you look through your library. Once saved, these photos are automatically tagged with the "saved" icon and are filtered out of albums and other photo collections. You can choose to view them by changing the filter from "unsaved" to "all". You can access your saved photos from the "Settings" tab. Saving ensures your favorite memories are protected and you don't waste time reviewing them repeatedly.
Does PhotoBase Cleaner work with iCloud Photos?
Yes! PhotoBase Cleaner works seamlessly with iCloud Photos. It can clean up photos stored locally on your device and help you manage your iCloud storage more efficiently.
Can I review and clean up specific albums instead of my entire library?
Yes! PhotoBase Cleaner allows you to work with individual albums and collections. You can select specific albums to review and clean up, which is perfect for organizing trips, events, or other themed collections without having to go through your entire photo library. This targeted approach saves time and lets you focus on organizing the photos that matter most to you.
What criteria can I use to sort and filter my photos?
PhotoBase Cleaner offers multiple sorting and filtering options to help you organize your library efficiently. You can sort by quality (Pro version), file size (largest to smallest), date taken (newest to oldest), and file type (photos vs videos). The AI analysis also provides quality scores to help you identify your best shots. These filtering options make it easy to focus on specific types of photos during your cleanup process.
Can I share photos directly from PhotoBase Cleaner?
Yes! PhotoBase Cleaner makes it easy to share your best photos. After reviewing and organizing your library, you can select any photo and use the standard iOS share functionality to send it via Messages, Mail, AirDrop, or any other sharing method available on your device. This is perfect for quickly sharing your favorite memories with friends and family.
Can I set up automatic review reminders?
Yes! PhotoBase Cleaner can notify you when new photos are added to your library, helping you maintain an organized photo collection over time. You can customize these reminders to fit your schedule.
What's the difference between the Free and Pro versions?
PhotoBase Cleaner is free with ads, while PhotoBase Cleaner Pro is a paid subscription with an ad-free experience and additional features. Both versions offer powerful cleaning features and privacy protection. However, the Pro version includes the time saving features of being able to sort and filter by quality and other analyzed criteria.
What's the difference between trashing and deleting photos?
When you "trash" a photo in PhotoBase Cleaner, it moves to the app’s Trash folder. There, it’s hidden from the rest of the app until you either "restore" it or "delete" it permanently. Deleting a photo uses iOS’s default system: the photo is moved to your device’s "Recently Deleted" folder, where it stays for 30 days before being permanently erased. During that time, you can still recover it through iOS. PhotoBase Cleaner always uses the safer trash method first, so you never lose photos right away.
Can I recover photos after deletion?
Photos deleted through PhotoBase Cleaner go to your device's "Recently Deleted" folder, where they remain for 30 days before being permanently removed. You can recover them during this period.

What if I accidentally delete a photo I want to keep?
PhotoBase Cleaner includes a one-tap undo feature to protect against accidental trashing. You can also "restore" photos from the trash. Additionally, all deleted photos go to your device's "Recently Deleted" folder where they remain for 30 days, giving you plenty of time to recover them, if needed.
The app is using a lot of memory. How can I fix this?
If PhotoBase Cleaner is using significant memory (sometimes occurs during AI processing), you can clear the app's cache to free up space. Go to the Settings tab within the app and look for the "Clear Cache" option. This will remove temporary files and analysis data, which can significantly reduce memory usage.
Where can I see statistics about my photo library?
You can view detailed statistics about your photo library in the Settings tab. This includes information about total photos and videos, storage space used, how many photos you've saved, and other useful metrics. These stats help you track your progress in organizing your library and see how much storage space you've reclaimed through cleanup efforts.
What does "asset" mean in PhotoBase Cleaner?
In PhotoBase Cleaner, an "asset" refers to any individual image or video file in your photo library. This includes photos you've taken with your camera, screenshots, downloaded images, videos, and any other media files stored in your Photos app. When we talk about "assets," we're referring to the complete collection of your digital memories that the app helps you organize and clean up.
